RIGA, March 9 (LETA) - From Monday until Wednesday noon, 1,101 Ukrainian war refugees have been registered at the refugee center at the House of Congress in Riga, Riga Mayor Martins Stakis (Progressives/For) said in a press briefing today.

About one third or 343 people applied for social assistance. The Riga mayor said that this means that also refugees who will be staying in other municipalities have arrived at the refugee center in Riga.

In total, 183 application have been submitted for the guaranteed minimum income, and 196 application for the crisis benefit. As many as 196 application were filed for education services.

Refugees are also issued e-tickets for the public transport in Riga, SIM cards for their phones and catering services.

The center right now is serving the people who turned to the center during the first two days, and others are given a queue number and a time when they should arrive at the center.

As reported, the refugee support center started work at the House of Congress this Monday, but the center this week is not able to deal with the huge flow of war refugees.

On March 14, another refugee center will be opened for Ukrainians in the former building of the Riga Technical University.
