Enough votes gathered to topple long-time Valka municipal leader Krauklis
RIGA, May 11 (LETA) - Enough votes have been gathered to topple the long-time leader of the Valka Regional Council Vents Armands Krauklis (Vidzeme Party).
Eight regional council members, meaning a majority, have signed to have Krauklis ousted.
As LETA has found out, the initiator is Regional Council Member Viesturs Zarins (New Unity/Latvian Farmers' Union).
There are a total of 15 seats in the Valka Regional Council.
In 2021, Krauklis was re-elected as the chairman of the Valka Regional Council with support of seven other regional council members.
Zarins bases his appeal against Krauklis on the grounds of inaction and regular conflicts within the regional council. He believes that Krauklis is unable to organize the work of the municipality.
Krauklis has been the head of the Valka Regional Council since 2013, but served as an MP before that for the now defunct People's Party.
