20 employees of Daugavpils education establishments leave jobs due to requirement for vaccination

RIGA, Nov 17 (LETA) - Due to the requirement for vaccination against Covid-19, 20 employees of education establishments in Daugavpils have left their jobs, most of them are teachers, the city's education board reported.

In total, 18 education establishments, including five schools and 13 kindergartens, did not see any changes as all employees had Covid-19 certificates.

At the same time, 28 education establishments, including 14 schools and 14 kindergartens, had to suspend 48 employees - 21 teachers and 27 technical employees. Also, 20 employees, including 13 teachers from 11 schools, as well as seven technical employees from four schools and three kindergartens made a decision to leave their jobs.

The education board hear Marina Isupova said that despite the fact that there are teachers who cannot participate in the education process, the process is carried out according to the plan in all institutions. Teachers have redistributed the work load and some new teachers have been recruited.

As many as 95 percent of staff in Daugavpils education establishments have been vaccinated, and another 3 percent have started the vaccination process.

The requirement for vaccination certificate has not caused a dramatic situation at schools, said Education and Science Minister Anita Muizniece (New Conservative Party) in an interview with the Latvian public radio earlier this week

A survey conducted in October showed that about 5 percent of teachers are ready to leave work due to mandatory vaccination requirement. "Overall, the situation is not dramatic," the minister said..
