Daugavpils decides to declare local energy crisis
RIGA, Dec 27 (LETA) - Daugavpils city council at an extraordinary meeting today decided to declare local energy crisis.
The council chairman Andrejs Elksnins (Harmony) said that due to the natural gas price hike, which is the main source of heating, the heating energy tariff will rise from EUR 1.09 to EUR 2.79 per square meeting starting from January.
He said that in the past three months the local authority had been doing everything it could financially to avoid a heating crisis and the situation where it would have to seek state assistance.
Lawmakers decided to set up Daugavpils municipal energy crisis center and approve its regulations.
