Most of new Covid-19 cases were registered in Riga
RIGA, Dec 17 (LETA) - Of the 1,040 new Covid-19 cases registered in the past 24 hours, almost 40 percent were registered in Riga, there was also a steep rise in Daugavpils, according to the data from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Riga reported 396 new Covid-19 cases, which increased the capital city's 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 3,203.
The latest 105 cases in Daugavpils brings the 14-day cumulative number in Latvia's second largest city to 1,283. Jelgava registered 41 new infections, with the total number growing to 366.
Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 has reached 480.6.
As reported, with 1,040 people testing positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, Latvia registered a record-high number of coronavirus cases for the second day in a row, while 12 more people died of the disease, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Two of the latest Covid-19 victims were aged between 50 and 60, five were aged between 60 and 70, four between 70 and 80 and one between 80 and 90 years. Latvia's total Covid-19 death toll rose to 394.
With 10,344 people tested for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the share of positive tests was 10 percent. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4 percent, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.
A total of 28,535 people in Latvia have so far tested positive for Covid-19. The total number of Covid-19 tests carried out in Latvia so far has reached 761,178.
According to LETA's estimates, 9,228 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the past two weeks. Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population is 480.6.
