RIGA, July 1 (LETA) - Andrejs Elksnins (Let's Go, Latgale!) was unanimously re-elected Daugavpils mayor on Tuesday.

All municipalities of Latvia have now elected their chairpersons.

At the first meeting of the newly elected Daugavpils City Council, all 15 deputies voted for Elksnins, who thanked the people of Daugavpils for voting for him and said that Daugavpils would overcome all difficulties. Elksnins also promised to reduce bureaucracy in Daugavpils and to support municipal workers.

Daugavpils City Council will convene for an extraordinary meeting at 3:15 p.m. today to elect deputy mayor and the municipality's finance committee.

As reported, the party of the incumbent mayor Elksnins Let's Go, Latgale! has won 14 out of 15 seats in Daugavpils. Let's Go, Latgale! took 68.25 percent of the vote, while For Latvia's Development placed second with 6.88 percent of the vote, winning one seat in these elections.
