Registered unemployment in Latvia drops to 4.9% at end-August
RIGA, Sept 9 (LETA) - The registered unemployment rate in Latvia at the end of August this year was 4.9 percent of the economically active population, which is 0.1 percentage points less than a month earlier, according to information published by the State Employment Agency (NVA).
At the end of August 2025, a total of 43,011 people were registered as unemployed with the NVA, which is 883 fewer than a month earlier, when 43,894 unemployed people were registered with the agency.
The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of August was still in the Riga region - 3.8 percent of the economically active population, which is 0.1 percentage points less than a month earlier, while the highest registered unemployment rate was in the Latgale region - 10 percent, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points.
In Kurzeme, the registered unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points in August to 5.1 percent of the economically active population, the registered unemployment rate in Zemgale decreased 0.1 percentage points to 4.6 percent, and in Vidzeme the registered unemployment rate was down 0.1 percentage points to 4.4 percent.
At the end of 2024, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.3 percent of the economically active population.
