Riga City Council decides to work on guidelines for smart city
RIGA, Oct 19 (LETA) - The Riga City Council today decided to start work on guidelines for the smart city.
The city development department will be in charge of the guidelines. The work on the guidelines should be completed by next fall.
The decision has been made, based on the European Commission's actions. The smart cities initiative means that local governments are developing and introducing smart city solutions in order to adapt urban infrastructure for the needs of residents and businesses, making life in the city convenient, safe and sustainable.
Smart cities should be able to react to future challenges, adapt to changes, reducing losses and risks to infrastructure, human health and life.
In the medium term, smart city solutions should promote climate neutrality, efficiency of resources and management, creation and development of innovations.
The smart city guidelines will be a strategic document for a period of five years.
