RIGA, Dec 12 (LETA) - Latvian rail passenger carrier Pasazieru Vilciens transported more than 20 million passengers in the first 11 months of 2025, which is an increase of 10 percent against the same period a year ago, LETA was told at the company.

On electrified lines, the biggest increase in passenger traffic in the first 11 months of this year was in the direction of Skulte, where 11 percent more passengers were carried than in the first 11 months of last year. At the same time, the highest number of passengers carried in the first 11 months of this year was in the Tukums direction.

On the non-electrified railway lines, the number of passengers increased by 14 percent in the Valmiera direction, and by 8 percent in the Daugavpils direction in the first 11 months of this year compared to the first 11 months of 2024.

At the same time, the company notes that the number of passengers on the Lugazi-Valga route has more than doubled in the first ten months of this year as the routes are coordinated with further connections to Tallinn.

As reported, in 2024, Pasazieru Vilciens carried a total of 19.445 million rail passengers, which is 13.5 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, and also 5.3 percent more than before the pandemic in 2019.

In mid-December 2023, Pasazieru Vilciens started passenger services with electric trains manufactured by the Czech company Skoda Vagonka.

Pasazieru Vilciens was established in 2001 as a result of the separation of domestic passenger transport from the functions performed by Latvijas Dzelzcels.
