Experts from eight European countries meet in Valmiera to discuss future of sustainable heating

Riga, Jan 22 (LETA) - In two weeks, on February 4-5, experts from eight European countries will meet in Valmiera to discuss the future of sustainable heating and cooling, Dzintars Mocs, public relations specialist of the Vidzeme Planning Region, told LETA.

The meeting of the international working group, organized on by the Vidzeme Planning Region in cooperation with the Riga Technical University (RTU), is dedicated to the identification of sustainable and innovative heating and cooling solutions, especially in the context of low-temperature heating networks.

The meeting of the international working group will focus on identifying concrete solutions to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency not only in Vidzeme but also in other European regions. Discussions will bring together representatives from local authorities, energy companies, policy makers and academic institutions, forming an interdisciplinary approach to achieving the objectives of this project.

The work group will take a deeper look at good practices identified by partners in their own countries and in other parts of Europe. Successful low-temperature heat network deployment projects from Latvia, Lithuania, Belgium, Poland and other countries will be presented, providing practical insights into solutions that reduce energy losses, promote the use of waste heat and geothermal energy and improve energy efficiency.

The aim of the discussions is also to explore how these technologies could be applied in the Vidzeme region and other similar areas in the project partner countries.

RTU, a leading educational and research institution in Latvia in this field, will make an important contribution to the scientific part of the event.

The results of the project will serve as an important resource for regional planning in Vidzeme, contributing to the modernization of the energy sector and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
