    Latvian National Symphony Orchestra's Summer Festival to take place in Ventspils August 19 to 21

    RIGA, May 18 (LETA) - The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra' Summer Festival will take place at Ventspils Concert Hall Latvija August 19 through 21.

    According to LNSO representative Anna Babre, the festival's special guests will be Canadian mezzosoprano Emily D'Angelo, pianist Andrei Korobeinikov, Sean Nicholas Savage, as well as oboist Egils Upatnieks, pianist Rihards Plesanovs and Latvian Radio Choir. The concerts will be conducted by Andris Poga, Guntis Kuzma and Ainars Rubikis. There will also be a special program for children.

    Ventspils last hosted the festival in 2020, the festival has also taken place in Cesis and Rezekne.

    The festival's opening concert "Reich's Desert Music" will be on August 19 at 8 p.m., featuring Upatnieks, Plesanovs and the Latvian Radio Choir. On August 20 at 8 p.m., the orchestra will perform Arthur Maskats' "My river runs to thee…".

    Also on August 20, Savage will perform on the outdoor stage at 10 p.m. Admission to the concert will be free.

    On the closing day of the festival on August 21, D'Angelo will perform for the first time in Latvia at 5 p.m. In the festival's closing concert, she will be joined on stage not only by LNSO, but also conductor Rubikis, who has been music director of Komische Oper Berlin since 2018. The concert will feature Alban Berg's "Seven Early Songs" and compositions from D'Angelo's album "Enargeia".
