RIGA, Jan 6 (LETA) - Of the 1,229 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Latvia over the past 24 hours, nearly 30 percent have been recorded in Riga, while the number of cases grew rapidly also in eastern regions of Latvia, according to the data from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

The 346 new cases discovered in Riga brought the cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases in the Latvian capital to 3,522. In Daugavpils, the cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases reached 965, with 119 cases confirmed in the past 24 hours. 

The cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases in Rezekne rose to 466, with 59 cases recorded in the past 24 hours. In Jekabpils, 54 new cases brought The cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases to 352 and in the Akniste region the number of cases recorded in the past day reached 79, including 44 new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours. 

With 3,522 Covid-19 cases recorded in the past two weeks, Riga remains the municipality with the highest cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases, followed by Daugavpils with 965, Rezekne with 466, Jelgava with 378, Jekabpils with 352, Talsi region with 269 and Liepaja with 252 cases.

Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population is now 612.6.
