RIGA, Jan 19 (LETA) - 58 persons are currently receiving treatment for Covid-19 at Vidzeme Hospital in Valmiera, with four suffering serious symptoms, the hospital's spokeswoman Benita Brila told LETA.

During the last day, four Covid-19 infected patients were hospitalized at Vidzeme Hospital, but six patients were discharged from the hospital.

Brila said that one hospital staff member has been diagnosed with Covid-19, but three more staff members have recovered and returned to work.

As reported, the number of Covid-19 patients in Latvian hospitals dropped to 1,157 on Monday, which is by 15 less than on Sunday, according to the National Health Service data.

Of all the Covd-19 patients currently treated in hospitals, 1,062 are patients with symptoms of medium severity and 95 with severe symptoms.

On Monday, 121 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals in Latvia, including four patients who were transferred. In the past 24 hours 107 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals, including the four transferred patients. The total number of Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals grew to 5,050.

LETA also reported, in the past 24 hours Latvia confirmed 812 new Covid-19 cases and 29 people died of the coronavirus disease, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC). Thus, the Covid-19 death toll has exceeded 1,000.

Latvia's total Covid-19 caseload reached 56,720, while death toll grew to 1,012 or 1.78 percent of all reported cases.
