Situation in hospitals between complicated and very complicated because of Covid-19 -association
RIGA, Jan 12 (LETA) - The situation in Latvia's hospitals is between complicated and very complicated because of the ongoing spread of Covid-19, Jevgenijs Kalejs, head of the Latvian Hospital Association, said on Latvian Radio on Tuesday.
Kalejs said that the number of Covid-19 patients ending up in hospitals, particularly patients with severe symptoms, continues to grow, with medics also contracting the infection too often. The head of the association indicated that the shortage of medical staff is generally a serious problem of the Latvian health sector.
In Kalejs opinion, the only solution is to suppress the infection rate and reduce the number of Covid-19 patients ending up in hospitals. This is the responsibility of the whole society, he stressed.
Kalejs also expects vaccines against Covid-19 to improve the situation, but to achieve this improvement the public has to be educated about the vaccines because many people are still rather skeptical about inoculation.
