Spridzans of Latvian Green Party returns as mayor of Dobele Municipality

RIGA, June 26 (LETA) - Former Dobele mayor Andrejs Spridzans of the Latvian Green Party was on Thursday elected chairman of the Dobele Municipality Council.

Spridzans was elected by eight votes from the electoral list of Latvian Green Party, the National Alliance and the Latvian Association of Regions.

In the mayoral elections, Spridzans beat rival candidate Ivars Gorskis of the Latvian Farmers' Union by one vote.

Meanwhile, six councilors from outgoing mayor Gorskis' Latvian Farmers' Union and one councilor from New Unity voted against Spridzans.

Spridzans chaired the Dobele Municipality Council from 2009 until the 2021 municipal elections, after which he was replaced by Edgars Gaigalis of the National Alliance, and later by Gorskis.

After this year's municipal elections, the Latvian Green Party formed a coalition with the National Alliance and the Latvian Association of Regions, securing a majority of one vote in Dobele, which allowed Spridzans to return as the municipality's mayor.
