EUR 44.2 million necessary for construction of infrastructure on eastern border by 2024
RIGA, Nov 30 (LETA) - EUR 44,208,589 are necessary for construction of the infrastructure on Latvia's eastern border by 2024.
The government today heard the Interior Ministry's informative report on the progress in construction of infrastructure on Latvia's eastern border.
The Interior Ministry has prepared a special law for faster construction of permanent infrastructure on the Latvian-Belarusian border. The bill took force on November 14, 2021.
Four bridges have been built on the border. A border infrastructure in a stretch of 172.9 kilometers still should be built, including a permanent fence of 134 kilometers.
Temporary fence of 37 kilometers has been build on the border with Belarus, completing the works on November 24. The project cost EUR 3.7 million.
The Border Guard plans to build a temporary fence in a stretch of another 22.8 kilometers, it will cost EUR 2,329,271.
On the Latvian-Russian border, infrastructure in a stretch of 230 kilometers has been built, including a temporary fence of 95.2 kilometers and four bridges. Infrastructure still should be built in a stretch of 53.6 kilometers.
The funding earmarked for construction of the border infrastructure reaches EUR 899,579 in 2021, EUR 16,923,461 in 2022, EUR 19,801,070 in 2023, and EUR 6,584,479 in 2024.
