More than 7,000 unemployed people had been looking for work for four years or more in Q3 2025
RIGA, Jan 3 (LETA) - In the third quarter of 2025, 7,400 unemployed people had been looking for a job for four years or longer, according to information compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP).
According to the CSP, at the end of September there were 66,200 unemployed people in Latvia. Most of them, or 10,100, had been looking for work for one to two years. Another 9,800 had been unemployed for six to 11 months.
Registered unemployment means that a person has been officially recognized as unemployed and is looking for work. While unemployed, the person must carry out a number of activities set by the State Employment Agency to find a job. The unemployed person can receive a grant for vocational training, retraining and qualification upgrading and for non-formal education. Career counselling is also available.
Unemployment benefits can be received for a maximum of eight months. The amount of the benefit depends on the person's length of insurance coverage and the salary paid in contributions.
