Polling stations open without incident
RIGA, June 7 (LETA) - On Saturday morning, all polling stations started their work without any incidents, Andrejs Vaivars, a spokesman for the Central Election Commission, told LETA.
He stressed that there were no reports of any problems and all polling stations are working.
As reported, today is the official voting day in the local government elections in Latvia.
948 polling stations across Latvia will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Voters can vote in any of the polling stations in the municipality they are registered in.
As many as 221,949 or 16.11 percent of voters have cast their votes in the local elections in Latvia on the first five early voting days this week.
At the moment, the highest voter turnout is in Riga, where 19.14 percent of voters have cast their ballots. Voter turnout in Vidzeme is 16.26 percent, in Latgale - 14.42 percent, in Zemgale 13.57 percent, while in Kurzeme 13.52 percent of voters have been to polling stations so far.
On Monday and Wednesday early voting has experienced technical glitches that affected operations of the systems and registers necessary for the polling process, while no problems were reported on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
