Registered unemployment in Latvia falls to 4.7% at end-April
RIGA, May 12 (LETA) - At the end of April, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 4.7 percent of the economically active population, 0.2 percentage points lower than a month earlier, according to information published by the State Employment Agency.
At the end of April 2026, a total of 41,507 unemployed people were registered with the State Employment Agency, which is 2,402 people fewer than a month earlier, when 43,909 people were registered as jobless with the agency.
The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of April was still in the Riga region - 3.6 percent of the economically active population, down 0.1 percentage point from a month earlier, while the highest registered unemployment rate was in the Latgale region - 9.7 percent, down 0.4 percentage points from a month earlier.
In Vidzeme, the registered unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points over the month to 4.2 percent of the economically active population at the end of April.
The registered unemployment rates in Zemgale and Kurzeme decreased by 0.4 percentage points in April, to 4.5 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively.
At the end of 2025, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5 percent of the economically active population.
