Riga, March 6 (LETA) - Former transport minister, MP Kaspars Briskens (Progressives) will work in the Saeima national economy, rural, environmental and regional policy committee, Saeima lawmakers decided on Thursday.

Briskens will apply for the post of head of the committee, on which the committee members still have to vote.

Until now, the committee was headed by Skaidrite Abrama (Progressives), who will now work in the Saeima defense, internal affairs and corruption prevention committee, as well as the National Security Committee, where she will focus on military industry and anti-corruption issues, Progressives said in a statement to the media.

The political force noted that under Abrama's leadership, the national economy committee worked actively on important bills promoting the development of renewable energy, consumer protection and the implementation of sustainable policies.

"One of the most important achievements was the regulations on the taxi sector at the Riga Airport, by setting a maximum fare and introducing a pre-paid system, which helps prevent passengers from being cheated," the media statement said.

Progressives also stressed that under Abrama's leadership, the committee addressed issues of openness in public administration and reducing bureaucracy, promoting more efficient use of resources.

As reported, Briskens lost his post as the transport minister after the "restart of the government" announced by Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity).

On Thursday, the Saeima confirmed the incumbent Atis Svinka (Progressives) as the Transport Minister.
