State Land Service conference to discuss role of geospatial data in security
Riga, March 18 (LETA) - A conference Data for Safer Tomorrow organized by the State Land Service (VZD) will take place tomorrow, March 19, VZD informed LETA.
The conference is dedicated to the strategic importance of geospatial data in strengthening national resilience and public security in the face of geopolitical uncertainty and digital transformation.
The event will be opened by Janis Sarts, Director of the NATO Centre of Excellence for Strategic Communications, outlining the key security trends of the 21st century. He will discuss the role of data in security and crisis management - what works, what does not and how to make quick and accurate decisions more efficiently.
The panel discussion will be attended by Martins Baltmanis, Chief of the State Fire and Rescue Service, Liene Cipule, Director of the Emergency Medical Service, Andrejs Grisins, Chief of the Tax and Customs Police, and Varis Teivans, Deputy Head of the Cyber Incident Prevention Authority Cert.lv.
The event will explain the opportunities for balancing data openness and security, as well as foreign experts will share their experience. Participants will discuss the role of geospatial data in sustainable development, the role of cadastral authorities in governance and the role of data registries in security.
The conference will also present practical examples from Latvian municipalities on smart city solutions and the role of data in securing the capital.
International experience will be shared by a member of the Malta Land Registry Authority, who will talk about the use of geospatial solutions and drones in the management of a small country.
Vita Narnicka, Director General of VZD, pointed out that geospatial data is nowadays essential not only for business, but also for the work of operational and security services, and it is important that the country has quality and reliable data.
