Highest Covid-19 vaccine uptake recorded in western Latvia and Riga
RIGA, June 8 (LETA) - At present, the highest uptake of Covid-19 vaccines is recorded in the western Latvian province of Kurzeme and the capital city Riga, with the percentage of people inoculated with first vaccine doses in these territories exceeding Latvia's average figure, according to the data released by the National Health Service's Vaccination Project.
The share of Latvia's population inoculated with first doses of Covid-19 vaccine has so far reached 33.7 percent. In Kurzeme, by comparison, first vaccine doses have been given to 39.2 percent and in Riga to 39.6 percent of residents.
Meanwhile, in three provinces the percentage of people that have received first vaccine doses is lower than Latvia's average. These provinces are Vidzeme (30.4 percent), Zemgale (23.1 percent) and Latgale (17.9 percent).
The share of fully immunized people is 28.5 percent in Kurzeme, 28.5 in Riga, 21.7 percent in Vidzeme, 16 percent in Zemgale and 11.7 percent in Latgale.
In five territories of Latvia the share of vaccinated people exceeds 40 percent. The municipality of Mazsalaca leads other territories of Latvia with 44.53 percent of its residents inoculated against Covid-19. Rucava has the second highest vaccine uptake - 43.97 percent, and Sigulda is third with 43.36 percent.
