RIGA, Oct 1 (LETA) - Monvids Svarcs (New Unity/For/Latgale Party) was re-elected chairman of Rezekne Region Council, while Maris Justs (For Latvia's Development) was elected chairman of Varaklani Region Council during the two newly-elected councils' first meeting on Friday.

13 out of 19 Rezekne Region Council members voted for Svarcs.

Rezekne City Council's coalition is made up of New Unity, Movement For, Latgale Party, National Alliance and the Latvian Association of Regions, while Harmony is the lone opposition party.

During the elections in Varaklani, For Latvia's Development took 64.73 percent of the vote, Latvian Farmers' Union - 20.32 percent, and a joint ticket of the Latvian Association of Regions and National Alliance - 9.86 percent.
