Most of new Covid-19 cases were registered in Riga, Jelgava, Daugavpils
RIGA, Dec 15 (LETA) - Of the 587 new Covid-19 cases registered in the past 24 hours, most were registered in Riga, Daugavpils, Jelgava, according to the data from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Riga reported 233 new Covid-19 cases, which increased the capital city's 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 3,253.
The latest 56 cases in Daugavpils brings the 14-day cumulative number in Latvia's second largest city to 1,145. Jelgava registered 32 new infections, with the total number growing to 284.
Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 has reached 457.6.
As reported, altogether 587 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Latvia in the past 24 hours, while five more coronavirus patients died, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) reported.
Two of the latest Covid-19 victims were aged between 50 and 65, two between 75 and 85 and one between 95 and 100. Latvia's Covid-19 death toll has thus grown to 357.
With 9,400 people tested for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the share of positive tests was 6.2 percent. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4 percent, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.
A total of 26,472 people in Latvia have so far tested positive for Covid-19. The total number of Covid-19 tests carried out in Latvia so far gas risen to 740,947.
