New Unity and Latgale Party agree on continued cooperation
RIGA, Aug 2 (LETA) - Political alliance New Unity and Latgale Party have signed an agreement to continue cooperation for another four years, or the office term of the 14th Saeima, LETA was told at New Unity.
The cooperation agreement was signed by Arvils Aseradens, an MP and member of the New Unity board, and Sergejs Maksimovs, Balvi regional mayor and member of the Latgale Party board.
Maksimovs underlined that it is currently paramount for Latvia to take care of national security, stability and preserve unity. "Latgale Party's long-standing cooperation with New Unity has proven that we can deal with challenges together and find farsighted solutions to make security and welfare in Latgale an important cornerstone of the security of the eastern border of Latvia and the European Union," he said.
"Our task is to balance the situation in Latgale with the rest of Latvia. Security in our country largely depends on this," said MP Rihards Kozlovskis, who runs in this year's parliamentary elections on the New Unity ticket in Latgale.
New Unity and Latgale Party have also agreed to coordinate their policies on the municipal level.
The political parties agree that following the 14th Saeima elections it is necessary to set up a stable center-right government coalition that would also include other likeminded parties.
