Riga, Jan 30 (LETA) - The air temperature in Latvia will become even cooler in the coming days, according to the weather forecast.

The weather will be mostly sunny, with cloudier skies expected in northern Kurzeme and sometimes in the eastern part of the country. Light snow and frost are expected in some places. The wind will be mainly blowing from the east, north.

The night into Monday is likely to be the coldest, with temperatures dropping to -28...-33 degrees C in many parts of Latvia, with -30 degrees C also possible in Pieriga region. Such low temperatures can only be expected where there will be clear skies and no wind overnight.

In the middle of the day it will warm up to -10..-18 degrees C, in northern Kurzeme - to -7..-10 degrees C.

The frost is expected to ease and clouds to increase over the next week, but as the skies clear in the second half of the week, night-time temperatures may drop to -20 degrees C.

The lowest air temperature so far this winter in Latvia was -28.4 degrees C on the morning of January 30 at the Daugavpils observation station. Latvia has not recorded a frost of -30 degrees C since January 8, 2024, while the last record was -33 degrees C in February 2012.
