For first time since September, air in Latvia warms up to +25 degrees C
RIGA, May 3 (LETA) - On Sunday, the air temperature in most parts of the country rose to +20..+25 degrees C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Cooler air remains on the west coast of Kurzeme and parts of the Vidzeme coast, with west-south-westerly winds.
At 2 p.m. the air temperature ranged from +10.8 degrees C in the port of Ventspils to +24.4 degrees C in Bauska and +24.7 degrees C in the center of the capital.
At 13.20, the temperature at Riga Airport showed +25 degrees C.
This is the highest temperature in the country since September. Last year, on September 21, the temperature rose to +26.4 degrees C in Bauska, while the maximum temperature for the month was +28.2 degrees C on September 6 in Rujiena.
Due to elevated ozone concentrations, air quality in Latvia is mediocre and in some places poor.
Synoptics predict gusty south-westerly winds across Latvia on Monday, 4 May, with temperatures rising to +25...+27 degrees C in Latgale and Selija. The air will become colder over the next few days.
As reported, the heating record for May 3 was broken in Kolka. In the middle of the day, the temperature in Kolka rose to +20.8 degrees C. The previous highest temperature recorded in Kolka on May 3 was +18.2 degrees C in 1990.
