Riga local authority bans walking on ice

RIGA, Mar 5 (LETA) - Taking into consideration weather conditions and forecasts, as of Friday, March 5, stepping on ice that still covers rivers, lakes and other water bodies in Riga is strictly prohibited, spokespeople at Riga City Hall informed LETA.

The decree that bans walking on the melting ice has been issued by the capital city's executive director. The municipal police are in charge of enforcing the decree.

Breaching the ban may result in a warning or a fine of up to EUR 100.
