EUR 150,000 of EEA and Norwegian grants to be allocated for support of Ukrainian refugees in Latvia
RIGA, May 10 (LETA) - The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday heard the Finance Ministry's monthly report on absorption of the EU funds, and supported the proposal to allocate EUR 150,000 of the EEA and Norwegian grants for support of Ukrainian refugees in Latvia.
Because of Russia's attack on Ukraine launched on February 24, Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein called on the Finance Ministry to consider a possibility to use EEA and Norwegian grant funding for support of Ukrainian refugees in Latvia.
The Cabinet decided to allocate EUR 150,000 of the EEA and norwegian grant to Ziedot.lv initiative "Assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Latvia".
Ziedot.lv will assist Ukrainian refugees in individual programs, such as support to poor families with children, poor senior Ukrainians, support in purchase of different necessary household goods, short-term assistance with food products, etc. Ziedot.lv will cooperate with municipalities who have accommodated Ukrainian refugees.
Assistance will also be provided in medical treatment which is not covered by the state in Latvia, including surgeries, medicines, rehabilitation, and other services.
