Folk costume parade in Riga arouses admiration and enthusiasm from tourists
RIGA, May 4 (LETA) - Today's national costume procession in Riga from Town Hall Square to the Freedom Monument aroused tourists' admiration and enthusiasm, LETA reported.
Despite the rain and cool weather, nearly 400 participants took part in the procession. Families with children also were in attendance.
The participants sang songs and played music at the Freedom Monument, and laid flowers to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Latvia's independence.
The participants were watched by both residents of Riga and visitors to the capital, as well as a large number of tourists who expressed their enthusiasm for the event.
As guests from Italy explained to LETA, it is amazing that in such cold weather, people gather for a magnificent celebration.
A group of young people from Estonia expressed their happiness that they had come to the Latvian capital at a time when the restoration of independence was being celebrated. They explained that they understood how important this celebration was for Latvia and stressed that they always celebrate Estonia's restoration of independence as wel..
Many tourists followed the marchers to the Freedom Monument and recorded the event on their smart devices.
Today is the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the restoration of independence of the Republic of Latvia.
