Bartasevics wins majority of seats in Rezekne City Council

Riga, June 8 (LETA) - The list of former Rezekne mayor Aleksandrs Bartasevics, formed by his party Together For Latvia and Latvia First led by Ainars Slesers, have won a majority in the Rezekne City Council, according to the Central Election Commission after counting all votes in Rezekne.

The list, represented by Bartasevics, won more than half, or 50.55 percent, of the votes, which would give it eight seats and a majority in the municipality.

Only three lists will be represented in the city council. The three seats will go to the alliance of the National Alliance, New Unity and For Latvia's Development, which received 17.6 percent of the votes, and an alliance of the Latvian Green Party, the Latvian Association of Regions and the New Conservative Party, which received 11.91 percent of the votes in Rezekne, giving it two seats.

Other lists failed to overcome the 5 percent barrier, including the Harmony party which Bartasevics used to represent for many years, received 2.75 percent of the votes.
