Educational establishments will receive EUR 257 per month for each pupil from Ukraine
RIGA, March 17 (LETA) - Educational institutions will receive EUR 257 of funding for each pupil from Ukraine every month, Olita Arkle, a senior expert from the Education Department of the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), told LETA.
She informs that the in additional to this payment, the ministry will also make a one-time payment of 50 euros to provide a set of teaching aids for a Ukrainian child for the rest of the school year. Funding is provided to ensure that educational institutions meet the individual needs of each child in the learning process. Funding is provided from the state budget contingency funds.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science will provide paid visits to a psychologist and speech therapist for all Ukrainian children who will need it.
Arkle emphasizes that this support will be provided to private schools that decide to admit Ukrainian children.
Commenting on the lack of staff to provide education for Ukrainian children, Arkle explained that the ministry is actively seeking and cooperating with various partners to provide staff in the educational process. The Ministry of Education and Science has established cooperation with the Safe House Shelter Association, which offers interpreter services to both Ukrainian children and other Ukrainian refugees.
Arkle emphasizes that the Ministry of Education and Science is actively looking for Ukrainian teachers who want to help children in the learning process, as well as Ukrainian students who are currently studying in Latvia and are ready to be teaching assistants.
