Administrative territorial reform has left positive impact on municipal budgets - Pless

RIGA, May 30 (LETA) - The administrative territorial reform shows a positive trend in municipal budget - local governments have more possibilities to provide social support services, said Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Arturs Toms Pless (For Development) after the coalition meeting today.

The coalition partners today were informed about the first results after the administrative territorial reform. Pless will inform on these results in more detail at the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on May 31.

He said that local governments now are able to attract more qualified specialists, which further means attraction of more companies and creation of new jobs.

As reported, the administrative territorial reform took effect on July 1, 2021. The number of municipalities has been reduced from 119 to 43.
