Rigas Udens water utility tariffs to increase by 14,1% from December

RIGA, Oct 30 (LETA) - As of December 1, 2025, water management services in Riga will increase by 14.1 percent, according to Rigas Udens water utility's new tariff approved by the regulator, the Public Utilities Commission, the company said in a statement to Nasdaq Riga.

The tariff hike of EUR 0.33 per cubic meter (excluding VAT) is necessary to cover the costs required for the renewal of the city’s water supply and sewerage systems, as many sewerage and water supply pipelines in Riga are beyond their intended operational lifespan.

From December 1, the tariff for water services in Riga will be set at EUR 2.67 per cubic meter (excluding VAT).

For a typical household in a multi-apartment building, this would mean an indicative monthly expenditure increase of around EUR 2.60, or less than 1 percent of the average household income.

Currently, the approved tariff for water services in Riga is EUR 2.34 per cubic meter (excluding VAT), comprising a water supply tariff of EUR 1.28 per cubic meter (rising to EUR 1.41 per cubic meter from December 1) and a wastewater tariff of EUR 1.06 per cubic meter (rising to EUR 1.26 per cubic meter).

As the current tariff no longer covers the costs necessary to renew Riga’s water supply and sewerage systems - with 35 percent of sewerage and 29 percent of water supply pipelines already beyond their intended operational lifespan, leading to an increasing number of breakdowns and emergency repair expenses each year - Rigas Udens submitted a tariff adjustment proposal to the regulator in August 2025.

Additional revenue from the new tariff will be directed towards the renewal of the city's utility infrastructure. By 2030, Rigas Udens plans to renew at least 90 km of water supply and 55 km of sewerage networks, which will significantly reduce water losses, minimize the risk of failures, and help lower long-term costs for residents.

As reported, the audited turnover of Rigas Udens last year was EUR 76.336 million, which is 0.1 percent less than in 2023. Due to the revaluation of assets, the company sustained a loss of EUR 18.275 million, compared to a profit in 2023.

Rigas Udens provides water supply services in Riga and several areas of the Pieriga Region - Adazi, Ropazi, Marupe and Kekava, as well as wastewater collection and treatment services. The company is wholly owned by the Riga City Council.
