    Flu incidence down in Latvia

    Riga, Feb 11 (LETA) - The flu incidence in Latvia decreased by 31.8 percent last week, but five deaths were recorded in patients with confirmed influenza infection, according to the influenza monitoring data of the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

    A total of 14 influenza deaths have been recorded since the start of the season, and 11 of the deaths, or 79 percent, were not vaccinated against influenza this season, according to the CDC report.

    Flu was clinically diagnosed in 216 patients last week, or an average of 311.1 cases per 100,000 population, compared with 309 cases or 455.8 per 100,000 population the week before.

    Flu cases were detected in all ten monitoring areas. The highest influenza intensity was recorded in Jelgava - 1,205.6 cases per 100,000 population, and in Liepaja - 580 cases per 100,000 population.

    677 patients were tested for influenza in hospitals, of whom 123 cases or 18.2 percent were confirmed as influenza, compared to 21.7 percent the week before. Most of the cases were influenza A and three were influenza B.

    The rate of positive tests for Covid-19 increased to 5.8 percent last week, compared to 4 percent the week before.

    The rate of positive tests for Covid-19 infection in hospitals decreased last week. 622 patients were tested, of whom 22, or 3.5 percent, had confirmed Covid-19 infection.

    There were 64 hospital admissions for Covid-19, the same as the previous week, and a total of 105 hospital admissions, of which 62 patients had Covid-19 as the primary diagnosis.

    Nine deaths in patients with confirmed Covid-19 infection were also recorded last week.

    Since the beginning of the year, a total of 31 deaths in patients with Covid-19 have been recorded. In comparison, 23 deaths in patients with confirmed Covid-19 infection were recorded during the same period in 2025.
