Daugavpils develops algorithm for airspace threat training
RIGA, May 19 (LETA) - The local government of Daugavpils is developing an algorithm to ensure training for a response to an airspace threat, representatives of the city council told reporters on Tuesday.
Commenting on the recent drone incidents in Latgale, Daugavpils Deputy Mayor Igors Prelatovs (Go Ahead, Latgale!) said that after the incident in Rezekne, where drones crashed into an oil storage facility, the civil protection commission of Daugavpils and Augsdaugava Municipality was convened to discuss the issue. "We are currently working to improve the communication and actions of the services responsible for these types of situations," added the deputy mayor.
For his part, the municipality's deputy executive director Karlis Rasis informed that the civil protection plan was adopted last week in a new wording, in which the actions and hazards have been re-examined and updated in line with the current situation.
"As regards the drone incident, the National Armed Forces (NBS) play a leading role in this situation. What the municipality will do is take support measures such as providing information and dealing with the aftermath," explained Rasis.
He stressed that even in the event of an airspace threat, the main task of the municipality is to ensure its functioning, including education, andsocial services. Latvia is expected to develop common national guidelines for municipalities in such cases, and a meeting with the Crisis Management Center is scheduled for this week to discuss these issues.
At the same time, Rasis reminded that in case of an emergency, residents should follow the instructions provided in cell broadcast messages.
The municipality is developing guidelines for the training process, but the final decision will still be made by the civil protection commission in each situation, taking into account the latest information from the NBS, Rasis said. According to the guidelines, in the event of a threat, someone will be on duty at educational institutions to admit students if necessary.
As reported, following yet another cell broadcast announcement about a possible airspace threat in Balvi Municipality, an action algorithm has been adopted for municipal authorities.
