Lithuania's Vilvi Group to start cheese production in Latvia
VILNIUS, Aug 6 (LETA--BNS) - Vilvi Group, one of the largest dairy producers in the Baltic states, is set to launch a EUR 55 million cheese production facility in the Latvian town of Bauska.
Equipment has already been installed at the Baltic Dairy Board plant, the company is getting ready for initial production trials and is continuing to expand its workforce, Vilvi Group said.
"We will begin trial runs with water in August, followed by trial runs with milk in November. Commercial production is expected to start in early 2026," Imants Bozovics, chief engineer at Baltic Dairy Board, said in a press release.
The equipment was supplied by TetraPak, SealedAir, GEA and other partners, he added.
The new plant will create more than 100 jobs.
The investment of over EUR 55 million is the largest project in Vilvi Group's history. The facility will have an annual capacity of 18,000 tons of cheese, which will be exported to over 40 countries.
