More than EUR 24 million invested in renovation of Rigas Udens water supply and sewerage networks so far this year
RIGA, Nov 27 (LETA) - Riga municipal water utility Rigas Udens has invested more than EUR 24 million in restoration of its water supply and sewerage networks this year, the company's communications department informed LETA.
The company is planning to close this year with a total of 23 kilometers of renovated water supply and sewerage networks.
By 2040, this figure will increase significantly, improving safety of the city's utilities and reducing the cost of emergency repairs.
Rigas Udens manages more than 1,542 kilometers of water supply and 1,288 kilometers of sewerage networks.
The average age of these networks is more than 40 years. Because of this, a high number of accidents occur every year: 903 accidents were recorded in 2024 and 577 accidents so far this year.
The company systematically collects and analyzes data on technical condition of its networks. Based on this information, a long-term renovation strategy for water supply and sewerage networks has been developed, which foresees renovation of at least 250 kilometers of water mains and 150 kilometers of sewerage networks by 2040.
The cost of renovation of Rigas Udens water supply and sewerage networks is projected at EUR 31 million next year.
As reported, the audited turnover of Rigas Udens last year was EUR 76.336 million, which is 0.1 percent less than in 2023. Due to the revaluation of assets, the company sustained a loss of EUR 18.275 million, compared to a profit in 2023.
Rigas Udens provides water supply services in Riga and several areas of the Pieriga Region - Adazi, Ropazi, Marupe and Kekava, as well as wastewater collection and treatment services. The company is wholly owned by the Riga City Council.
