Cargo turnover of Liepaja port up 5.7% in January-May
RIGA, June 18 (LETA) - The port of Liepaja in southwestern Latvia handled 2.805 million tons of cargo in January-May 2021, which is 5.7 percent more than in the same period a year ago, according to the data released by the Ministry of Transport.
Handling of bulk cargo decreased by 2.7 percent year-on-year to 1.889 million tons.
The turnover of general cargo in Liepaja rose 46.4 percent on year to 680,600 tons in the first five months of 2021.
Handling of liquid cargo at the port decreased by 4.5 percent from January-May 2020 to 236,300 tons in January-May this year.
In May 2021, the port of Liepaja handled 601,400 tons of cargo, an increase of 24.3 percent against the same period a year ago.
In 2020, the port of Liepaja reloaded 6.603 million tons of cargo, down 10 percent from 2019, including 2.653 million tons in the first five months of the year.
Liepaja is the third largest port of Latvia by cargo turnover.
