RIGA, Jan 16 (LETA) - In 2025, Riga's public transport carried 118,491,909 passengers, which is 2.2 percent more than in 2024, the municipal public transportation company Rigas Satiksme informed LETA.

The company notes that the trend of passenger growth was observed throughout the year. The largest number of passengers in 2025 was carried by buses, but the most popular route and mode of transport was tram route 1.

Buses carried 52,350,406 passengers, trolleybuses 40,072,550, and trams 26,068,953.

Analyzing the most popular routes for each mode of transport, tram route 1 was the leader, with 12,228,050 passengers using it during the year. Among bus routes, the most popular was bus route 3 with 7,452,372 passengers, while in trolleybus traffic, the highest demand was for route 15, which was used by 6,395,696 passengers.

An increase in passenger numbers was also observed at the end of the year - in December 2025, 9,595,273 passengers were transported by public transport, which is 2.7 percent more than in December 2024.

In 2025, there was also an increase in the number of inspections carried out on public transport and the number of fare dodgers detected. In 2025, a total of 288,443 inspections were carried out, during which 44,717 fare dodgers were detected. By comparison, in 2024, 39,889 passengers were fined for traveling without a ticket.

As LETA reported, Rigas Satiksme municipal transport company closed 2024 with EUR 193.315 million in unaudited turnover, which is an increase of 5 percent compared to a year before, while the company's profit shrank to EUR 93,608.

Rigas Satiksme provides passenger transportation by buses, trams, and trolleybuses in Riga, as well as manages parking lots and parking spaces.
