RIGA, April 16 (LETA) - Latvian citizens in foreign countries can start sending their ballots by mail in this year's municipal elections from April 18, LETA was told at the Central Election Commission.

According to the Central Election Commission, to give Latvian citizens abroad the opportunity to participate in the 2025 municipal elections, the Central Election Commission has provided the voting-by-mail option.

The voting-by-mail option is only available to voters in foreign countries. Eligible to vote are citizens of Latvia who will be 18 years of age on the election day and who have a declared place of residence in the administrative territory of the municipality or owns immovable property at least 90 days before the election day may vote.

Registration for voting by mail is open from April 18 to May 30.

Citizens can register for voting by mail on the Latvija.lv website or on the e-service Veletaju datu parvaldiba (Voter Data Management) on the website of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs. When applying, voters must indicate the declared place of residence in Latvia or property in Latvia.

Postal envelopes will be considered valid if they are received before the start of vote counting at 20:00 (Latvian time), June 7, 2025.
