Riga saves EUR 4.6 million worth of street maintenance funds this winter
RIGA, March 30 (LETA) - Riga has managed to save EUR 4.6 million worth of funds that had been earmarked for street maintenance this winter, the municipality informed LETA.
As reported, this past winter was not among the hardest for the municipal maintenance services. Previously, Riga was forecast to see 53 snowy days in the winter. Eventually, however, snow had to be removed from the streets only on 13 days, while street surfaces had to be treated with anti-skid materials in 27 instances.
The city's Outdoor and Mobility Department informs that out of the EUR 15 million allocated for street maintenance in the winter months - from December to February - only EUR 10.4 were spent on this purpose.
The local government plans to spend the saved EUR 4.6 million on everyday maintenance works in the summer season, such as the maintenance of street and sidewalk surfacing, pothole repairs, etc.
