Kaulins appointed head of Riga City Council's Spatial Planning and Mobility Department
RIGA, Sept 17 (LETA) - The Riga City Council on Wednesday voted to appoint Kristaps Kaulins as director of the Riga City Council's Spatial Planning and Mobility Department.
Kaulins was nominated for the post by the Riga City Council Communications and Transport Committee.
Kauliņš previously named sorting out financial management, completing the reorganization and monitoring the progress of major projects as his first tasks as head of the department.
LETA reported that all coalition partners in the Riga City Council had expressed their support for Kaulins' nomination.
The New Unity faction of the Riga City Council said, however, that the competition for the position had not been in line with good governance standards, as work experience requirements were eased in the repeated tender.
It was also reported that Kaulins, a former adviser to Riga City's executive director, was nominated for director of the Riga City Council's Spatial Planning and Mobility Department.
In a repeated tender, Kaulins was found to be the best candidate for the position.
Kaulins won the tender in a competition of 24 candidates.
Kaulins holds a degree in transport engineering from Riga Technical University. He has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of JSC Celuprojekts and a local council member in the Olaine municipality.
From 2021, when Martins Stakis (Progressives) was the mayor of Riga, Kaulins was an adviser to the city's executive director. He currently works at the Riga City Council's Finance Department.
