Registered unemployment at end of last year was 5.3%
RIGA, Jan 10 (LETA) - At the end of December 2024, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.3 percent of the economically active population, which is 0.2 percentage points more than at the end of November, according to information published by the State Employment Agency (NVA).
At the end of December 2024, a total of 46,553 unemployed people were registered with the NVA, which is 1,371 more than a month earlier, when 45,182 unemployed people were registered with the agency, but 3,791 less than at the end of 2023, when there were 50,344 unemployed people registered with the agency.
The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of December was still in the Riga region - 3.9 percent of the economically active population, which is the same as at the end of November, while the highest registered unemployment rate was in the Latgale region - 10.3 percent, 0.1 percentage points more.
The fastest rise in registered unemployment in was in Kurzeme - by 0.4 percentage points, accounting for 5.4 percent of the economically active population at the end of the month.
In Vidzeme, the registered unemployment rose by 0.2 percentage points and was 5.4 percent at the end of December.
In Zemgale, the registered unemployment rose by 0.2 percentage points and was 5.2 percent at the end of December.
At the end of 2023, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.7 percent of the economically active population.
However, the registered unemployment rate in all regions of Latvia has decreased over the year, i.e. compared to the end of 2023.
In Zemgale, the registered unemployment rate has fallen by 0.3 percentage points, in the Riga region by 0.4 percentage points, in Vidzeme by 0.5 percentage points, in Latgale by 0.7 percentage points and in Kurzeme by 0.8 percentage points.
