Bite Latvija invests EUR 5 million in network modernization and future service development
Riga, April 7 (LETA) - Mobile operator Bite Latvija has invested EUR 5 million in modernization of its network and the development of future services, the company told LETA.
Bite Latvija said that the company has invested EUR 5 million in modernization of the mobile service management system, introducing next-generation, cloud-based systems to improve network security, stable operation and readiness for future technologies.
The investment is a part of the company's long-term growth strategy, which includes targeted network investments, faster data transmission, reduced network latency and the introduction of innovative solutions including industrial automation, IoT services and critical infrastructure connectivity, the company explained.
The company said that a key part of the mobile service management modernization project is replacement of the customer data and service management system (HLR/HSS) and a complete migration to technologies from Ericsson, a Swedish telecommunications equipment manufacturer.
"Continuing the network modernization, we are introducing new, cloud-based mobile service management systems that significantly strengthen the security and stability of the Bite Latvija network. The HLR/HSS transition to Ericsson technologies is a significant development step that allows us to implement more sustainable solutions, improve service performance and prepare the network for next generation technologies," notes Mindaugas Rakauskas, General Director of Bite Latvija.
He pointed out that in practice, for customers, this means faster, more stable and less latency data transmission, and that in the future the company will be able to introduce new services.
As reported, in 2026, Bite Latvija plans to invest EUR 20 million in network modernization across Latvia, including the expansion of 5G coverage and the introduction of next-generation 5G+. This year, 70 new base stations are to be built across Latvia - 10 percent in Riga and 90 percent in the regions, especially Vidzeme and Latgale. In addition, 170 existing base stations will be upgraded with 5G.
In 2024, Bite Latvija posted a turnover of EUR 183.75 million, up 12.5 percent year-on-year, while its profit rose 1 percent to EUR 33.712 million.
The company was registered in 2005 and has a share capital of EUR 44 million. Bite Latvija is wholly owned by the Lithuanian Bite group, which is owned by Providence Equity Partners, a global asset management company.
