Boxer Briedis joins Stability party, plans to run for municipal elections in Riga
Riga, March 6 (LETA) - Latvian boxer Mairis Briedis, who has retired from boxing, has joined the Stability party and will run in the top three candidates in the upcoming municipal elections in Riga, the political force said in a statement to the media.
Briedis was previously a member of the Harmony party.
Last August, Briedis announced the end of his sporting career. He has dedicated 25 years to sport.
Briedis is a three-time cruiserweight world champion. He also won the World Boxing Super Series in 2020.
In 2022, Briedis was expelled from TM Fighting team due to his stance on the war in Ukraine. TM Fighting said in a statement that Briedis was expelled from the team because his stance on the war started by Russia was not in line with the team's principles.
Local elections in Latvia will be held in early June.
