Riga to consider launching ferry service between Vecmilgravis and Bolderaja
RIGA, Dec 17 (LETA) - Riga City Council today instructed the City Development Department to assess the possibility of launching a ferry service between the neighborhoods of Vecmilgravis and Bolderaja.
As Riga councilor Vjaceslavs Stepanenko (Sovereign Power) said earlier at a committee meeting, it currently takes two hours to travel from one neighborhood to the other by public transport during rush hours, while it would take 15 minutes by ferry.
According to the councilor, a ferry service between Vecmilgravis and Bolderaja would solve the commuting problems of residents of two large Riga neighborhoods.
As LETA was told at Riga City Council, a public petition calling for a ferry service has gathered 2,850 signatures. A data check found 2,331 signatures to be valid.
Residents have appealed to Riga City Council to provide regular ferry service on the Vecmilgravis-Bolderaja route.
