Traffic in Latvia's border town Valka to be regulated using 5G

RIGA, Jan 31 (LETA) - Traffic in Latvia's border town Valka will be regulated with the help of the 5G technology, the local authority's spokesman Ivo Leitis informed LETA.

Last week, municipal representatives of Valka and Estonia's Valga, Latvian mobile operator LMT and other partners from Spain, Finland and Estonia took part in an online meeting on live tests of 5G for cooperative connected and automated mobility in Valka and Valga.

As part of the 5G-Routes, connected and automated 5G technologies will be deployed in Valka and Valga for testing them in the Via Baltica-North cross-border corridor.

The project is intended to promote the development of connected and automated mobility and 5G. The project is financed under the EU research and innovation program Horizon 2020.

"We are glad that Valka will become one of the first places in Latvia using the 5G technology. Moreover, the project's implementation will not require investments from Valka's municipal budget," said Valka mayor Vents Armands Krauklis (Vidzeme Party).
