Jelgava regional council chairman Ainars steps down after four months in office

Riga, Feb 3 (LETA) - On Monday, at the beginning of an extraordinary session of the Jelgava Regional Council, the chairman of the council Uldis Ainars (New Unity), who was elected to the post in September last year, resigned.

At the start of an extraordinary session of the council, which is due to consider draft decisions on the development of public infrastructure, Ainars announced that he had submitted his resignation to the council. He did not give a reason for his resignation.

As the sitting continued, the deputy chairwoman, Dina Tauriņa (Latvia's Association of Regions), took over the chair of the meeting at Ainars' request.

The municipality informed that Taurina will ensure the continuity of the municipality's activities until the election of a new chairperson.

Ainars was elected chairman of Jelgava Rounty Council on September 20 2024 after the local council had been working without a chairman following the resignation of Madars Lasmanis (For Latvia's Development) in April 2024.
