RIGA, July 1 (LETA) - Jurmala council today re-elected long-term mayor Gatis Truksnis, representing the Union of Greens and Farmers, LETA learned from the council.

There were two candidates put forward - Truksnis and Andris Cuda (National Alliance).

Cuda received three votes, and Truksnis received 11 out of 15 votes.

Thus, Turksnis has been elected mayor for the fifth time. For the first time he was elected as the mayor in 2010, and in April 2013 he was suspended from the position, but returned three months later. For the second time he was suspended in October 2016, but was reinstated in a month.

In January 2017, he stepped down from the position, but in June he was elected as the mayor again.

Greens/Farmers won eight out of 15 seats at the Jurmala council, the National Alliance won two seats, Harmony got two seats, and For You, For Jurmala won two seats, while New Unity/Movement For got one seat.
